Dr Chelsey Dewson
Dr Chelsey Dewson is a forensic psychologist with over 16 years’ experience working within the public and private sectors. She has undergraduate degrees in psychology and criminology, a master’s degree in forensic psychology and a PhD in investigative psychology. She has studied in Australia and overseas, where she has gained knowledge and expertise alongside world renowned experts in the field. Dr Dewson also holds a diploma in personnel and operations management, a diploma in government, a certificate IV in frontline management, and a statement of attainment towards a certificate IV in correctional practice and juvenile justice.
About Me
Dr Dewson commenced her career as an officer within Juvenile Justice and was formerly a Military Police Officer within the Australian Army Reserves. She graduated from the Royal Military College with various accolades, including the NSW Regiment Tactics award and the Sydney University Regiment Leadership award. She spent over 10 years working as a psychologist within NSW custodial settings, with both juvenile and adult offenders. Dr Dewson specialised in the assessment and treatment of high-risk sexual offenders, having worked within a residential program for offenders in the custodial environment. In 2016, Dr Dewson transitioned into private practice, where she has primarily worked with forensic, military and law enforcement personnel. She has taken a particular interest working within post sentence detention and high-risk offender legislation, for sexual, violent and extremist offenders. Since legislative reforms were made in 2017, Dr Dewson has been at the forefront of providing risk assessments for high-risk violent extremists, where she has worked across various states to provide expert consultation. She is frequently called upon by state and commonwealth agencies to provide advice and assessments on complex forensic cases and risks to national security. Dr Dewson also provides consultation to law enforcement agencies and government departments relating to insider threats. She has provided services to various tertiary establishments, including the University of NSW, Western Sydney University and Tasmania University. She has also presented at professional conferences both in Australia and internationally. Dr Dewson is a registered forensic psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner regulation Agency (AHPRA), where she is endorsed as a forensic psychologist. She is a member of the Australian Psychology Society and a Fellow of the Forensic College. Dr Dewson maintains various professional associations, such as with the International Research Centre for Investigative Psychology, and the Asia Pacific Association of Threat Assessment Professionals.
